Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd.’s Synvisc(R) has been approved in South Africa for the treatment of pain in osteoarthritis of the knee. Synvisc is an intra-articular treatment for osteoarthritis of the knee, a painful and debilitating joint disease in which the elastoviscous properties of the synovial fluid in the knee joint diminish, resulting in less protection and shock absorption. It is used for patients who do not get adequate relief from simple painkillers (for example, acetaminophen) or from exercise and physical therapy. Related Links: Synvisc, F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd.
