New Electronic Relief For Pain & Discomfort of Nausea Now Available

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 22, 1996 -- The most effective treatment available in the fight against the pain and discomfort associated with nausea and vomiting is now available across America for the first time, as Maven Laboratories has kicked off national production and distribution of its ReliefBand electronic medical product, announced Maven President and CEO Bernie DiDario.

Worn like a wristwatch, the drug-free ReliefBand represents the first portable application of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) technology to relieve the pain and discomfort associated with nausea and vomiting. Positioned on the wrist's underside, the battery-powered ReliefBand unit sends mild electric pulses through the body's neuropathways, quickly blocking signals of gastric distress before they reach the brain.

Applications for the ReliefBand include relieving the pain and discomfort of nausea and vomiting associated with motion sickness (sea, air and land), chemo and radiation therapy, AIDS treatment and non-specific stomach distress. Research shows TENS therapy to be safe for all users (except those wearing cardiac pacemakers) and is effective for up to 90 percent of all patients.

Proven effective in numerous clinical studies with no side effects, the ReliefBand is safe for both children and adults. It is non-invasive and can be used over extended periods of time. Trademarked in 1994, the ReliefBand has been marketed on a limited basis through selected medical product distributors, and has since gained acceptance by medical practitioners and consumers alike.

"Finally, Americans have a proven alternative to hit-and-miss gimmicks and medications that make them drowsy," said Lawrence Bertolucci, a director of Maven, inventor of the ReliefBand and former seasick fisherman. "For the millions of Americans who suffer from chronic motion sickness and other related conditions, the ReliefBand relieves the pain and discomfort of nausea and vomiting without the side effects found in other treatments."

The ReliefBand is worn directly over the "P6 point," an important relief center on the underside of the wrist that is recognized as an integral neural link to the digestive system. Electrogastrogram (EGG) tests demonstrate that the ReliefBand reduces gastric dysrythmia when applied to P6, calming the churning of the stomach that leads to the pain and discomfort of nausea and vomiting. Currently, the ReliefBand is available by prescription in the United States, with a price of $295 (consumers receive a no-risk, 30-day, money-back guarantee.) The ReliefBand is available in Canada and other countries on an over-the-counter basis without a prescription.

The ReliefBand is powered by three zinc air 312 batteries (traditional hearing aid batteries) and is small enough to be carried in a pocket or purse.

For more information on the ReliefBand, consumers can call the toll free number at 1-888-668-6648.
