| | | ![]() Advances in Future Prostate Product Development NEW YORK, Oct. 31, 1996 -- ENDOcare, Inc. (OTC: ENDO), a leading innovator in the field of minimally-invasive therapies treating prostate disease, unveiled developments at the Seventh Annual Oppenheimer Health Care Conference in New York City for its new nitinol stent that could offer temporary relief to patients suffering from urinary obstruction. "Currently, urologists often must turn to catheterization when faced with the temporary management of urinary obstruction in patients who have recently undergone a therapeutic procedure or are awaiting permanent therapy," said Paul W. Mikus, chairman and chief executive officer of ENDOcare. "Instead, ENDOcare's new nitinol stent would allow urologists to treat obstruction on a temporary basis without subjecting the patient to the inconvenience and limitations associated with wearing a urinary catheter. Our new nitinol stent would also have the competitive advantages of easy placement with minimal trauma during removal," he added. The company is targeting submission of an investigational device exemption (IDE) with the Food and Drug Administration and, following clearance, will initiate human clinical trials early in 1997. ENDOcare develops, manufactures and markets devices to treat diseases of the prostate. The company currently markets surgical disposable devices used in electrosurgery and surgical systems that include minimally-invasive probes for tumor destruction. As a longer-term opportunity, ENDOcare is initiating research and development on an innovative product line to provide immediate therapy for prostate obstruction in an office-based setting.
