The new formulation offers several enhanced features, including a reduced content of vitamin A, an important antioxidant vitamin. In a recent New England Journal of Medicine study, Vitamin A was associated with birth defects at excessive doses (more than 10,000 IU/day). ZENATE Tablets achieved the lower dose (3,000 IU) by reducing the retinyl palmitate component wthout altering beta carotene, a form of vitamin A which has not been linked to birth defects. The tablets also provide a special coating to minimize stomach upset and are free of artificial dyes, lactose or other sugars. "ZENATE Tablets were reformulated to reflect the latest advances in nutritional research and to insure that Solvay Pharmaceuticals continues to offer leading-edge products to women," said Aqeel Fatmi, Ph.D., Senior Vice President, Research & Development. "New Advanced Formula ZENATE Tablets most closely match the current RDA guidelines for pregnancy," said Fatmi. Also, there is no generic substitute for Advanced Formula ZENATE Tablets. In mid-August, Solvay Pharmaceuticals medical representatives began providing samples of Advanced Formula ZENATE Tablets to the obstetrical medical community. Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc. of Marietta, GA is a research-based pharmaceutical company active in the therapeutic areas of women's health, gastroenterology, and mental health.
