The study was presented at the 27th annual meeting of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology (ACCP), a joint meeting with the Canadian Society for Clinical Pharmacology and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The findings of this study were reported in the Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. "This study provides definitive evidence that ibuprofen liqui-gels work faster than acetaminophen in relieving tough headache pain," said E.W. Packman, ScD, Institute for Applied Pharmaceutical Research, Philadelphia, PA. The randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study compared Advil Liqui-Gels (400mg) with Extra Strength Tylenol caplets (1,000mg) in subjects with tension-type headache. Headache entry criteria were based on the International Headache Society guidelines. Patients who were treated with Advil Liqui-Gels reported a faster onset of analgesic relief on tough headache pain, both for confirmed first perceptible relief and meaningful relief, than those who received Extra Strength Tylenol. Newly available to consumers, Advil Liqui-Gels are the first single-ingredient pain reliever manufactured with a patented process that incorporates a liquid solution of 200 mg of ibuprofen in each gelatin capsule. The benefit of this unique form is fast absorption of the medicine into the body. In addition to a faster onset of action, Advil Liqui-Gels provide long-lasting pain relief and are gentle on the stomach. Data from controlled clinical trials confirm that Advil is well tolerated when taken in recommended doses. Studies have shown that ibuprofen is among the safest of the NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). A recent multi-centre, double-blind, randomised clinical study of 1,246 people found that ibuprofen liqui-gels were as safe and well tolerated as placebo. Approved for marketing as an over-the-counter medication by the United States Food and Drug Administration, fast-acting Advil Liqui-Gels are indicated for the relief of aches and pains associated with common cold, headache, toothache, muscular aches, backache, minor pain of arthritis and menstrual cramps. Advil Liqui-Gels also are indicated for the temporary reduction of fever. The recommended dosing of Advil Liqui-Gels for ages 12 and over is one to two Liqui-Gel capsules taken every four to six hours while symptoms persist (not to exceed six Liqui-Gel capsules in 24 hours unless directed by a doctor).
