These new results from this study of 49,000 migraine attacks, show that for most migraine sufferers, Zomig may break the cycle of migraine. "Not only can migraine be completely debilitating during an attack, but the anxiety of the next attack also may reduce a patient's quality of life," said Dr. Alexander Mauskop of the New York Headache Center and lead author on data presented at the meeting. "For those patients treating up to 25 attacks over a six-month period, a single dose of Zomig 2.5 mg demonstrated response rates greater than 80 percent ." Results from this study show that when patients taking a second dose for persistent headache are included, a successful headache response (two hours after final dose) was seen in 95 percent of the attacks. Zomig 2.5- and 5.0-mg tablets were cleared for marketing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in November 1997 for treatment of acute migraine with or without aura in adults. Zomig was made available by prescription in pharmacies nation-wide in January of 1998. More information on: Zomig, Zeneca Pharmaceuticals
