MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- May 21, 1998 -- Vivus, Inc.’s Muse(R) (alprostadil) has been approved by the South African Medicine Control Council for sale and distribution for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.

Muse utilises a non-injectable, disposable plastic applicator containing a micro-suppository of the medication. The stem of the applicator is inserted approximately one inch into the urethra where the medication is released. Alprostadil, a synthetic version of prostaglandin El, is a naturally-occurring vasodilator.

The drug is currently cleared for commercial distribution and has been launched in the United States and the United Kingdom. Approvals have also been received for Sweden, Argentina, Brazil, South Korea and Switzerland.
