| | | ![]() Approvable Letter Received for Covera-hs(tm) SKOKIE, Ill., Jan. 29, 1996 -- G.D. Searle & Co.. and ALZA Corporation (NYSE: AZA) today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued to Searle an approvable letter for the marketing of Covera-HS(TM) (verapamil), a once-daily controlled release calcium channel blocker for the treatment of hypertension and angina. Final FDA approval is subject to satisfaction of the conditions specified in the approvable letter. Covera-HS incorporates ALZA's controlled onset, extended release delivery system. Taken at bedtime, the product is designed to deliver peak concentrations of drug in the early morning hours. Upon final marketing clearance from the FDA, Covera-HS will be marketed by Searle and manufactured by ALZA, and ALZA will receive royalties based on sales of the product.
