Noven Announces Canadian Marketing Approval for Estrogen Skin Patch

MIAMI -- Jan. 12, 1996 -- Noven Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:NOVN) announced Friday that its transdermal estrogen skin patch has received Notice of Compliance from the Canadian Health Protection Branch for use in the treatment of post-menopausal symptoms.

The marketing approval was received by Ciba-Geigy Canada Ltd. which has the exclusive right to Noven's transdermal estrogen system, Vivelle, in Canada. Ciba-Geigy expects to launch Vivelle in Canada during the first quarter of 1996.

Vivelle utilizes matrix technology in which the adhesive functions as both the drug platform and as a means of affixing the system to the patient's skin. The patch delivers 17-beta estradiol through the skin and into the bloodstream continuously for three to four days.

Noven Pharmaceuticals Inc. is committed to becoming a fully integrated pharmaceutical company capable of developing, manufacturing, and marketing pharmaceutical products which incorporate alternate drug delivery technologies. Noven is at the forefront in the development and commercialization of advanced transdermal drug delivery systems.
