In most respects, yes, according to a new survey of 300 50-year-olds conducted by the Bayer Corporation. The survey found that 50-year-olds today feel better and more self-confident about their states of mind than they did when they were 30, but don't feel as good about their sex drives and overall health. Yet, today's 50-year-olds think they are aging better than their parents did and feel that turning 50 was no big deal. How Important are Exercise & Nutrition in Maintaining Health? All surveyed are doing something to keep healthy, such as exercising or improving their diets. Women tend to be more proactive, with nearly 50 percent avoiding fatty foods (compared to 41 percent of men), and 63 percent eating a balanced diet (55 percent of men). Men, perhaps taking a more relaxed approach, are almost twice as likely to sleep more. No "Biggie" Turning 50 The majority of survey respondents don't view 50 as a major milestone, with more than 70 percent saying it was no different turning 50 than any other age. However, nearly twice as many men as women found it more difficult embracing the golden birthday. I Don't Feel As Old as My Mom and Dad Finally, today's 50-year-olds think they are aging better than their parents. Nearly 54 percent believe they think younger than their parents when they were 50. More than 57 percent feel they know more about health and nutrition than their parents. Yet, only 42 percent say they look younger.
