Johnson & Johnson Names Robert J. Darretta Chief Financial Officer



NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., March 27, 1997 -- Robert J. Darretta has been named Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer, and a member of the Executive Committee of Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ). Mr. Darretta's appointment is effective immediately and he will report to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ralph S. Larsen. Mr. Darretta succeeds Clark H. Johnson, who passed away on March 13.

Mr. Darretta had served as Treasurer and a corporate officer of Johnson & Johnson since May of 1995. He began his career with the corporation in 1968 as a finance management trainee at Ethicon, Inc. After progressing through several positions of increasing responsibility, Mr. Darretta was named chief financial officer and a board member of Ethicon in 1978.

In 1984, he was appointed managing director of Ethicon S.p.A., Italy, where he provided leadership for several of Johnson & Johnson's professional products franchises. He returned to the United States in 1988 to become president of Iolab.

"Bob brings to his new responsibilities sound business judgment, a strong background in financial management and valuable domestic and international general management experience," Mr. Larsen said.

Mr. Darretta graduated from Villanova University with a B.S. degree in economics and also attended the Stanford Executive Management program.

Mr. Darretta currently serves on the Board of Directors of Operation Smile, a charitable organization that provides reconstructive surgery to needy children around the world. He resides in Princeton, N.J.
