Delix is the only ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme) inhibitor that has been shown in clinical trials to prevent stroke, heart attack and cardiovascular death, and is the only ACE inhibitor to be approved for use in preventing these disorders. Marketed by Aventis Pharma, Delix is also sold in other countries under the brand name Tritace®. First reported in the medical literature in 2000, the HOPE (Health Outcomes Prevention Evaluation) study demonstrated the unique ability of Delix to prevent cardiovascular events in a high-risk population. Since the publication of the HOPE study results, Delix/Tritace has become one of the most widely used ACE inhibitors in Europe and is the second biggest selling individual Aventis product in Germany. Delix/Tritace is manufactured and marketed throughout the world (with the exception of the US and Japan) by Aventis Pharma. Ramipril is marketed in the US by King Pharmaceuticals. The product generated ex-US sales of $709 million in 2001. Delix/Tritace, along with the anti-thrombosis agent Clexane®/Lovenox®, form the foundation of the cardiology franchise for Aventis Pharma.
