| | | ![]() FDA Approves Tazorac (Tazarotene) Cream for Acne Vulgaris IRVINE, CA -- October 16, 2001 -- Allergan today announced it has received approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market Tazorac® Cream (tazarotene cream 0.1%) for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris. Tazorac Cream is a topical, receptor-selective retinoid specifically designed to deliver effective retinoid action in both psoriasis and acne. Since 1997, Tazorac Gel (0.05% and 0.1%) has been FDA-approved for the treatment of stable plaque psoriasis and Tazorac Gel 0.1% has also been indicated for mild-to-moderately severe facial acne vulgaris. Tazorac Cream (0.05% and 0.1%) was approved by the FDA for the treatment of plaque psoriasis during the third quarter of 2000. "This approval provides physicians an effective new prescription alternative for treating a broader range of patients with varied skin types," said F. Michael Ball, Corporate Vice President and President, North America Region.
