| | | ![]() UK Approves CFC-Free Salamol (Albuterol) Inhaler For Asthma MIAMI, FL -- April 19, 2000 -- IVAX Corporation announced that its United Kingdom subsidiary, Norton Healthcare Limited, has received its first approval for the asthma medication, albuterol, in a CFC-free formulation in the U.K. The product will be launched immediately by IVAX' U.K. subsidiary's own sales force under the trademark Salamol(R) CFC Free and will be available in IVAX' patented, award-winning Easi-Breathe(R) inhaler as well as in a conventional metered-dose inhaler. Because of the concern that CFC propellants are harmful to the environment, they are gradually being phased out throughout the world. The approval of IVAX' first CFC-free albuterol in the U.K. will be used to gain expedited approval under the mutual recognition procedure in other European Union countries. Additionally, IVAX has approval for its CFC-free beclomethasone dipropionate in six European countries. According to IVAX Vice Chairman and President Neil Flanzraich, "The approval of IVAX' CFC-free albuterol in the U.K. is the latest in a series of IVAX' important asthma product approvals. With IVAX' array of unique, patented inhalers and its related formulation expertise with various propellants for use both with a number of off-patent asthma medicines and IVAX' own proprietary asthma molecules in development, IVAX is well positioned to become one of the preeminent providers of asthma medicine throughout the world." In the U.K., the preferred name for albuterol is salbutamol. IVAX Corporation, headquartered in Miami, is a holding company with subsidiaries engaged in the research, development, manufacture and marketing of branded and generic pharmaceuticals and veterinary and diagnostic products in the U.S. and international markets.
