New Line of In Vitro Diagnostic Tests for Cancer Unveiled

TUSTIN, Calif., Feb. 3, 1997 -- AMDL, Inc. (OTC BB: AMDD) today announced the launch of five in vitro diagnostic tests for the management of cancers of the prostate, colorectum, liver and testicle.

AMDL's new tests include the:

* CEA Diagnostic Kit for the detection of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), which is expressed by colorectal cancer cells, as well as other tumors;

* PSA Diagnostic Kit to determine the presence of prostate specific antigen (PSA) associated mainly with prostate cancer;

* Total BETA-hCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) Diagnostic Kit for testicular cancer (while the presence of gonadotropin usually indicates pregnancy in women, the hormone may also be associated with testicular cancer in men);

* AFP Diagnostic Kit to detect alpha-fetoprotein and the Ferritin Diagnostic Test Kit to detect ferritin. Elevated levels of both AFP and ferritin can be associated with liver cancer.

"The addition of these five diagnostic tests marks a significant company milestone as we expand our product line for cancer disease management," said That T. Ngo, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of AMDL, Inc. "With these clinically useful products and our aggressive international business strategy aimed at underserved markets, AMDL is well-positioned to develop a special niche in disease diagnostics.

"While we continue moving forward with expanding the market for our DR-70 Tumor-Marker Test Kit, AMDL also is focusing on additional products to increase the growth of the company and its value for our shareholders," added Dr. Ngo.

AMDL's diagnostic tests use antibodies to detect the tumor markers. Utilizing an ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) format, AMDL's detection systems are standard in vitro blood tests that are readily adaptable to automated instruments.

"Our new line of immunodiagnostics for the detection of CEA, PSA, AFP, ferritin, and BETA-hCG are well-accepted tests and support our global business strategy -- to target countries with underserved medical markets, and supply them with premier diagnostic products that are accurate, fast and easy-to-use," said Ronald J. Moore, Ph.D., AMDL, Inc.'s vice president of operations.

The company currently is negotiating exclusive distributorships to market and sell these products internationally. The distributors will be responsible for obtaining regulatory clearance for each product in their respective international territories. AMDL's test kits for CEA, PSA, AFP, ferritin, and BETA-hCG are available for use outside of the United States.

AMDL, Inc. is a biomedical company applying immunochemical technology to develop novel diagnostic tests for use in the diagnosis of cancer and other diseases.

Certain statements in this announcement that relate to AMDL, Inc.'s plans, objectives or future performance may be deemed forward-looking within the meaning of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995.
