| | | ![]() Feosol Elixir Iron Supplement Recalled PITTSBURGH, PA -- February 21, 2000 -- SmithKline Beecham Consumer Healthcare, maker of Feosol Elixir Iron Supplement Therapy, is issuing a voluntary recall of all liquid Feosol Supplement Therapy packaged in plastic bottles. SBCH estimates the recall of liquid Feosol Elixir Iron Supplement Therapy involves about 11,000 plastic, 16-ounce bottles in the United States (Retail Lot Numbers 9H23 and 9J11). Feosol in glass bottles and Feosol Caplets and Tablets are not affected by the recall.
The recall by SBCH is a precautionary measure. There is no immediate health risk posed by the liquid Feosol Elixir Iron Supplement Therapy in plastic bottles and no related adverse effects have been reported. During routine quality control monitoring and testing, SBCH found that liquid Feosol could potentially begin to crystallize or form a coating on the inside of the plastic bottle, affecting the potency of the liquid Feosol. If this should happen, the crystals or crystal coating should not be ingested. While SBCH has suspended production of liquid Feosol Elixir Iron Supplement Therapy until further notice, the product is still available in tablet and caplet form. Consumers who have purchased liquid Feosol in plastic bottles should return it to the retail store where it was purchased for a full refund. Consumers with questions about the product or recall are encouraged to call SmithKline Beecham Consumer Healthcare's toll-free consumer hotline at 1-800-245-1040.
